Past and Present in one bowl of Miso Soup

I love Japanese culture, in fact always did. Japan is known in the West for their Manga, Anime and Sushi; however, they have so much more to offer. I discovered not that long ago some of their famous novelists and writers and just finished reading Murakami’s The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I had to read the English translation as my Japanese is a bit rusty.

Japanese writers have a very peculiar vision of the world. They often use violence whether physical or psychological; they are metaphoric, neurotic, surreal, sometimes secluded and often ambiguous, like their language. Though I still have a lot to read and discover, I believe them to be masters in understanding our inner demons. I would have enjoyed reading about Freud meeting a Japanese philosopher (if someone knows about such a story). Psychoanalysis was not really practiced in Japan during the 20th century. Things may have changed in today’s fast pasted capitalistic world. The novelist Yukio Mishima identified the reason for its faltering, but this was 40 years ago.

Like Therapy?’s song “Happy people have no stories”, many of us knew disappointments in their life. All depends how we lived through it and continued thereafter. Murakami’s book made me think and I decided to open part of my closet. Like other youth, I had my “poetry” epoch. It was a time when my mind was trying to give a sense to life and find a spot in our society.

I’m not sure I have found it yet, as life is revolving around our continual change in idiosyncrasies. One day you’re a poet and the next you’re someone else. Growing and finding maturity is a long path some of us do not wish to follow and even less transcend.

If we are what we do, we first have to acknowledge our past acts and frames of mind. Having decided to start this blog in part to unravel my different layers and evolve as a person, I decided to share some of my works as a Poet. I do not pretend to have mustered words well enough to be called a Grand Artist and I do not care polluting the worldwideweb with amateurism.

I just act!

Maybe I lost part of myself when I stopped writing; a portion I would like to unearth.

If interested by my older works, just have a look at the Poetry page.

Enjoy your readings.
